Readiness & Recovery
Sleep Score
Sleep grades last night only — duration versus your personal sleep need, deep and REM quality, and sleep efficiency.
Components
Time asleep carries 60% weight — duration compared to your personal sleep need, not a fixed eight hours. Deep and REM sleep contribute 25% for restorative architecture. Sleep efficiency is 15% — the percent of time in bed actually spent sleeping.
Your target derives from your own rolling average. A seven-hour night may score higher for someone whose baseline is 6.5 hours than for someone who needs eight.
Score bands
Great at 80 or above is an excellent night. Good from 60 to 79 is solid for most people. Fair from 40 to 59 is below usual. Needs work below 40 suggests prioritizing recovery and an earlier bedtime.
Connections
Sleep feeds into Recovery at 25% weight on sleep quality. It appears as its own ring on Home, Apple Watch, and widgets. Oura and Apple Health dashboards display sleep data. AI Coach may reference poor sleep in the daily brief.
Without sleep data the ring may be empty; Recovery uses other signals. Nap-only or partial data uses conservative scoring.
