Mental Stress Score
Mental Stress tracks psychological stress only. Hammr replaced the legacy Strain score in 2026 — always use Mental Stress in copy.
What mental stress measures
Mental Stress answers: how mentally stressed was I today? The score uses intraday near-still windows, not workout heart rate. Hammr divides the day into 15-minute windows and evaluates heart rate and HRV while you are near-still.
Workouts, walks, chores, and the 90-minute post-workout burn period are filtered out so a heavy leg day does not look like anxiety.
Stress zones
Rest from 0 to 25 is calm parasympathetic recovery. Low from 26 to 50 is normal everyday stress. Moderate from 51 to 75 is elevated — a short walk or breathing break may help. High from 76 to 100 is sustained stress — prioritize rest and hydration.
Home shows the latest awake reading; the Stress tab shows today's average across eligible windows with an intraday chart and time-in-zones breakdown.
Improving accuracy
Apple Watch samples HRV sporadically unless AFib History is enabled in the Health app. Hammr Settings includes guidance to enable it for denser readings.
Mental Stress does not replace readiness or recovery and is not a clinical anxiety diagnosis. Do not refer to this score as Strain.
