How to log food

Open Nutrition, pick a meal, and log with search, barcode, Photo → Macros, Text → Macros, or saved foods — any day, not just today.

Hammr’s Nutrition tab is built to take seconds, not minutes. Macro rings sit at the top. Meals sit underneath. You can log breakfast at 7am or last night’s dinner from the date picker — the diary is not locked to today.

Open the diary

  1. Tap Nutrition in the tab bar.
  2. Check today’s rings: calories, protein, carbs, and fat.
  3. Use the date picker at the top if you need yesterday (or any other day).
  4. Tap a meal — Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or Snacks — to start logging.

Rings use today’s effective targets. If Adaptive Macros are on, those numbers can differ from yesterday. Tap Why targets changed when you want the breakdown.

Ways you can log food

Every method lands in the same meal. You can scan a barcode, then search for a side, then add a saved food, without leaving the logger.

Manual entryCustom recipes and labels you type yourselfFree
  1. Open a meal and tap the search field.
  2. Type the food name. Include the brand when you want a packaged item.
  3. Results come from a merged database: USDA, Open Food Facts, and FatSecret.
  4. Tap a result, confirm serving size, then log it.

Search is the default path when you know the name. For barcodes, skip search and use the scanner — it is faster and still free.

Confirm the serving, then log

After you pick a food:

  1. Check the name and brand.
  2. Change the serving unit (grams, cups, pieces, the package serving).
  3. Adjust the quantity.
  4. Confirm to add it to the meal.

Logged items show per-item calories and macros in the meal list. Tap an item later to edit or delete it.

Log a past day

Use the date picker on Nutrition, then log as usual. This is how you catch a dinner you forgot, or meal-prep a future day. Adaptive macros still lock today’s targets — historical days keep the targets that were in effect that day.

After you log

What stays free

Core diary, search, barcode, water, and macro rings are free. Photo → Macros, Text → Macros, and Adaptive Macros need Hammr Premium (or AI credits for some photo/text logs).
